I’ve taught journalism practice at university level since 2009. During that time I have co-ordinated courses in digital journalism, investigative journalism and, most recently, Journalism Design.
I have been involved in curriculum design, at undergraduate and post-graduate level and have delivered -professional training in the Maldives as part of a Unesco project.
Innovation and design underpin my university-based courses. These are predominantly practice-led, studio based courses, in which students work on semester-long projects. This format encourages students to understand what is made possible by new technologies and to begin experimenting.
I have been an early adopter of new teaching approaches, including online delivery and multi-disiciplinay teaching.
Journalism Design: A course about using design methods to create journalistic tech.
Media Design: A course about designing multimedia and interactive narratives.
