I am a former journalist and now journalism lecturer in the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland.  I am also the Director of NewsCubed, a journalism and design startup.

My research straddles design and journalism practice, and aims to show how one can help the other innovate. I teach courses in digital journalism and production, including the funky J+IxD initiative that teams budding news hounds with emerging designers. My PhD project, the NewsCube, won an industry grant for journalism innovation.

I have more than 10 years’ journalism experience at media groups in Australia, South-east Asia and the UK, including the Financial Times, where I was an interactive producer. I am involved in the Tech Street Journal, a Brisbane-based media startup focused on the tech industry and am co-founder of the Brisbane chapter of HacksHackers. I am a member of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance, the National Union of Journalists and the Association for Computing Machinery.
